PUTRAJAYA — Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Federal Territories) Hannah Yeoh has requested that the Putrajaya Corporation and Federal Territories Department conduct a comprehensive review of Budget 2027 allocations designated for elderly care initiatives.
Yeoh's call comes as policymakers assess how adequately current funding levels address the growing needs of the ageing population across the three federal territories. The minister emphasised that sufficient resources are essential to ensure quality care services, community support programmes and healthcare provisions for older Malaysians.
The review is expected to identify potential gaps in service delivery and recommend adjustments to enhance the welfare framework for senior citizens. Authorities have been tasked with evaluating existing programmes and determining whether additional investments are needed to improve accessibility and quality of geriatric care.
The move reflects broader concerns about demographic shifts in Malaysia, where the proportion of elderly citizens continues to rise. Stakeholders have increasingly highlighted the need for comprehensive and well-funded social support systems tailored to meet the specific requirements of this growing demographic segment across urban centres in the federal territories.
