Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday responded sharply to remarks attributed to AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi about electoral prospects in Uttar Pradesh, dismissing the statement as reflective of a politics without substantive agenda.
"There is no agenda and no space for such people in Uttar Pradesh," Adityanath said, in an apparent reference to Owaisi's comments. The Chief Minister's remarks underscored the government's stance against what it characterizes as divisive political messaging in the state.
The exchange reflects ongoing political tensions between regional parties and the ruling BJP-led administration in India's most populous state. Adityanath has consistently positioned his government as focused on developmental and governance issues rather than identity-based politics.
Owaisi, who leads the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM), has been attempting to expand his party's footprint beyond its traditional strongholds in states including Bihar and Telangana. The AIMIM chief's remarks about electoral performance in UP appear aimed at mobilizing support among certain voter segments in the state.
