BAGUIO CITY — Residents of Barangay Loakan Proper discovered a young eagle in distress at their rented property on Saturday, initiating a rescue operation that culminated in the bird's transfer to wildlife authorities.
The eagle was found in the garden area of a residential home in Purok Bubon around 10 a.m., according to the family. The homeowners, recognizing the bird's vulnerable condition, contacted the appropriate agencies rather than attempting to care for it themselves.
Local authorities received the bird and began preliminary assessments to determine its health status and rehabilitation requirements. Wildlife officials did not immediately provide details on the eagle's injuries or prognosis.
The rescue underscores ongoing wildlife concerns in Baguio's residential areas, where native bird species occasionally venture into populated zones. Authorities continue to encourage residents to report encounters with injured wildlife to proper agencies rather than handling animals independently.
