However, medical professionals across the region caution that this assumption underestimates the risks faced by younger, apparently healthy adults who may face serious health consequences from prolonged exposure to poor air quality.

Research indicates that particulate matter and other pollutants present during haze episodes can penetrate deep into the lungs of all age groups, triggering inflammatory responses regardless of baseline health status. Young adults engaged in outdoor activities or those with occupational exposure face particular risk, as increased physical exertion accelerates inhalation of harmful particles.
