Young Indians must prioritize nation's interests, FM Sitharaman tells graduates

Sitharaman addressed the 36th convocation of Dr M G R Educational & Research Institute on Tuesday, emphasizing the importance of civic duty and social responsibility among India's younger generations. She acknowledged the government's willingness to engage with youth aspirations while urging graduates to reflect deeply on their role in the nation's progress.

"Whether you call yourselves Gen Z or Gen Alpha, we are all ready to listen to what you have to say," the finance minister said. "But you must reflect on what is happening around you, what your role is, and what can be achieved for the country through you."

Sitharaman invoked the principle of asking not what one's country can do, but what one can contribute to it. She exhorted the passing-out students to assume leadership positions in their respective fields while maintaining unwavering commitment to ethical standards and national interests. The message underscores the government's emphasis on channeling youthful energy and talent toward nation-building endeavors across sectors.
