GEORGE TOWN — The Youth and Sports Ministry (KBS) has signalled its commitment to strengthening sports development at the grassroots level while improving support systems for athletes, as it prepares for Budget 2027.
The ministry submitted its initial budgetary framework to the government, placing particular emphasis on expanding access to sports facilities and training programmes in communities across the country. Officials have identified youth sports participation as a key area requiring enhanced investment to build a sustainable talent pipeline for future national representation.
Alongside grassroots expansion, the ministry has prioritized athlete welfare initiatives, including improved access to medical services, mental health support, and training allowances. These measures are intended to ensure that competitive athletes receive comprehensive care throughout their careers.
The framework reflects the ministry's strategic direction to develop sports as both a tool for national pride and a vehicle for community health and social engagement. Budget allocation decisions are expected when the federal government presents its full 2027 budget proposal.
