YouTuber Dhruv Rathee Released After Delhi Police Detention

Dhruv Rathee, a prominent YouTuber, was released late Saturday night after being detained by Delhi Police, an official confirmed on Sunday. He had been taken into custody from his residence in Gurugram's Sector 56 on Saturday as part of a broader security operation across the national capital.

Police detained Rathee ahead of a planned demonstration by the Cockroach Janta Party at Jantar Mantar, where protesters sought to demand the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged irregularities. A police source cautioned that Rathee faces the prospect of re-detention or further legal action should he attempt to proceed to Jantar Mantar in defiance of prohibitory orders currently in effect.

The detention was part of an unprecedented security crackdown in Delhi, with police sources reporting more than 7,000 protesters detained at multiple locations throughout the city. Several opposition political leaders, including former chief ministers Arvind Kejriwal, Mamata Banerjee, Pinarayi Vijayan and Manik Sarkar, were also detained while attempting to participate in the demonstration.

The heightened security measures underscored authorities' determination to prevent large gatherings in central Delhi, where access to key protest sites has been restricted through the imposition of prohibitory orders under Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code.
