YouTuber Markiplier is positioned to receive a substantial financial windfall following GoPro's announcement of a merger with Starman Optical in an all-stock transaction valued at $285 million. The content creator, whose real name is Mark Fischbach, holds more than 8.5 percent of GoPro, making him the company's largest individual shareholder outside of institutional investors and GoPro itself.
Under the terms of the merger agreement, GoPro shareholders will receive $1.14 per share. Fischbach's current stake in the action camera manufacturer is estimated at approximately $9 million, though the exact payout he will receive has not yet been disclosed publicly.
The merger represents a significant development for GoPro as it continues to navigate the competitive action camera market. The combination with Starman Optical is intended to strengthen the company's technology and product offerings.
Markiplier, one of the world's most prominent content creators with millions of followers across multiple platforms, has maintained his investment stake in GoPro despite the evolving gaming and digital media landscape. The transaction is expected to close subject to customary closing conditions and regulatory approvals.
