Zahid caught between UMNO-PH tensions despite administrative cooperation

Political analyst Syaza Shukri has cautioned that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Zahid Hamidi remains vulnerable to escalating tensions between UMNO and Pakatan Harapan, even as the two major political blocs maintain functional administrative cooperation.

While day-to-day government operations continue smoothly between the coalition partners, a fundamental crisis of confidence persists at leadership levels, Shukri noted. The practical working relationship has not translated into genuine political reconciliation or the resolution of underlying grievances between the two sides.

The analysis underscores the fragile nature of Malaysia's current political landscape, where collaborative governance masks continuing strategic rivalries and mutual suspicion. Zahid's position as Prime Minister appears particularly exposed to these broader coalitional tensions, potentially complicating government stability and policy implementation.
