Deputy Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob expressed optimism following discussions with the Malaysian Chinese Association (MCA), describing the talks as producing "all positive" outcomes as the coalition seeks common ground ahead of Malacca state elections.
The statement came as MCA President Wee Ka Siong offered a contrasting assessment of negotiations, suggesting the discussions had not yielded the breakthrough the party leadership hoped to achieve in the near term.
The divergent positions highlight ongoing tensions within the ruling coalition over seat allocation and campaign strategies for the Malacca polls, a key electoral test for the Barisan Nasional alliance in the state.
Both leaders said they remained committed to finding a consensus before nomination day, with MCA continuing to pursue favorable terms that would strengthen its representation in the state assembly.
