Zahid signals preference for early general election
The UMNO president has expressed a preference for an early parliamentary dissolution, though the party remains prepared for elections at the end of next year should Parliament's current term run its full course.

Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi indicated on Monday that the ruling coalition favours calling a general election ahead of the constitutionally mandated deadline, citing advantages to conducting polls sooner rather than later.
However, Zahid noted that UMNO and its coalition partners have contingency plans in place should Parliament's five-year term conclude naturally at the end of 2025, as permitted under Malaysia's electoral framework.
The signalling comes amid ongoing speculation about the timing of the next general election, with political observers noting that early dissolution could provide strategic advantages for the government.
