Zahid supports parliamentary probe into Tabung Haji management since 2017

KUALA LUMPUR — Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has thrown his support behind a parliamentary initiative to examine Tabung Haji's management practices dating back to 2017, signalling the government's commitment to transparency in overseeing the Islamic pilgrimage fund.

Zahid stressed the importance of grounding any investigation in factual evidence rather than relying on public perception or rumour. The Public Accounts Committee's proposed review would provide a comprehensive assessment of the fund's governance and operational decisions over the seven-year period.

Tabung Haji, which manages savings and pilgrimage arrangements for Malaysian Muslims, has faced scrutiny in recent years over various aspects of its management and financial performance. The committee's investigation is expected to examine administrative practices, fund allocation, and internal control mechanisms.

The move reflects ongoing efforts by the government to strengthen institutional accountability and restore public confidence in organisations entrusted with significant financial responsibilities. Parliamentary oversight of such bodies remains a key mechanism for ensuring proper governance and fiduciary standards.

The scope and timeline for the PAC's investigation into Tabung Haji are expected to be finalised in coming weeks, with findings to be presented to Parliament upon completion.
