OLONGAPO CITY — Subic and Castillejos municipalities in Zambales announced the cancellation of classes at all public and private schools on Thursday due to ongoing inclement weather conditions brought by the habagat, or southwest monsoon.
The decision to suspend face-to-face and online classes affected students from elementary through tertiary levels as heavy rains persisted across the two towns. Local government officials determined that the weather remained unsafe for school operations and student travel.
The suspension marked a setback to academic schedules after several Zambales municipalities had resumed normal classes on Wednesday following a brief break in the weather. The recurring suspensions highlight the challenges faced by educational institutions as the monsoon season continues to affect weather patterns across the region.
School administrators were expected to announce further updates on class resumption as meteorological conditions stabilize. The habagat typically brings heavy rainfall to western portions of Luzon during the southwest monsoon season.
