The Philippine Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Central Luzon office has completed a substantial reforestation drive in Zambales province, planting 2,200 Kawayan Bayog seedlings in Barangay Guinabon, Sta. Cruz.
The seedlings were distributed across a 69.8-hectare forest plantation as part of broader efforts to restore vegetation coverage in the area. DENR officials stated that the initiative is intended to bolster ecological protection and support the long-term sustainability of local forest resources.
Kawayan Bayog, a native bamboo species, is valued for its rapid growth rate and environmental benefits, making it a strategic choice for large-scale reforestation projects in the region. The species helps stabilize soil, prevent erosion, and provide habitat for local wildlife.
The Zambales planting activity reflects ongoing government commitment to expanding forest cover across Central Luzon. Provincial officials have identified reforestation as a critical component of their environmental management strategy to address deforestation and climate-related challenges.
