Zambales town, Olongapo extend class suspensions as monsoon rains persist

MASINLOC, Zambales — Classes remained suspended Wednesday across public and private schools in Masinloc town and nearby Olongapo City as the southwest monsoon maintained its grip on the region, bringing heavy rainfall to Zambales.

Masinloc Mayor Hazel Lim issued the suspension order affecting all educational levels, encompassing both teaching and non-teaching personnel in schools throughout the municipality. The decision reflects growing concern over hazardous conditions created by the prolonged wet weather system affecting the western coastal area.

Officials have advised residents to monitor weather updates and heed warnings from disaster management authorities as the monsoon pattern continues. Schools are expected to resume operations once conditions improve and it becomes safe for students and staff to travel.

The southwest monsoon, locally known as the Habagat, typically brings substantial rainfall to Luzon's western regions during the summer months. Authorities urged the public to remain vigilant and avoid flood-prone areas as water levels rise across the province.
