Zamboanga City suspends classes as heat index soars to 43°C

ZAMBOANGA CITY – Local government officials suspended all classroom activities Thursday as the heat index climbed to a perilous 43 degrees Celsius, posing significant health risks to students and school personnel.

City Caretaker and Administrator Percival Ramos issued the directive affecting pre-school through Grade 12 classes in both public and private schools. The decision prioritized the safety of learners and educators amid the extreme weather conditions affecting the region.

The suspension underscores growing concerns about heat-related illnesses in Mindanao, where temperatures have increasingly become a challenge for educational institutions. School administrators have been advised to monitor weather updates and determine when conditions improve sufficiently to resume regular classroom operations.

Educational institutions are expected to coordinate alternative learning arrangements or make-up schedules as needed to ensure students do not fall behind academically during extended weather-related closures.
