Zamboanga del Sur province intensifies scrutiny of mining firm's operations

PAGADIAN CITY — The Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Zamboanga del Sur is conducting a comprehensive review of mining activities operated by TVI Resource Development Philippines Inc. (TVIRD) in Bayog municipality, according to provincial officials.

The provincial board's Ad Hoc Committee has initiated the investigation to examine multiple aspects of the company's operations, including adherence to environmental regulations, outstanding tax liabilities, and transparency in gold shipment procedures. The move reflects growing concerns among local authorities regarding mining sector oversight and revenue collection in the resource-rich province.

The investigation aims to ensure that mining operations comply with national and local environmental standards while meeting all tax obligations to the provincial and municipal governments. Provincial officials are also seeking to strengthen monitoring systems for mineral transport to prevent irregularities in the gold supply chain.

The inquiry represents an effort by the provincial government to balance economic development with environmental protection and fiscal responsibility. Results of the investigation are expected to inform future mining policies and regulatory frameworks in the province.
