Zelensky visits Norway for royal funeral, military aid discussions

President Volodymyr Zelensky travelled to Norway to pay respects at the state funeral of King Harald V, one of Europe's longest-reigning monarchs, while using the visit to advance discussions on military and civilian aid for Ukraine's ongoing defence against Russian aggression.

The visit underscores Norway's strategic importance as a major backer of Ukraine in the Nordic region. Since Russia launched its full-scale invasion in early 2022, Norway has provided substantial military equipment and humanitarian assistance to support Kyiv's resistance efforts.

Zelensky's attendance at the funeral represents a diplomatic engagement with a key Western ally during a critical period for Ukraine. The talks held during his stay are expected to cover continued defence cooperation and potential additional support measures as Ukraine sustains its military operations.

Norway's role in supporting Ukraine reflects broader Western commitment to the country's sovereignty and territorial integrity. The bilateral discussions underscore the importance Nordic nations place on coordinating aid efforts and maintaining strong security partnerships with Ukraine.
