Zheng stuns Swiatek in stunning US Open upset to reach quarters

China's Zheng Qinwen continued her impressive run at the US Open with a commanding victory over Poland's Iga Swiatek in the fourth round on Wednesday, securing a 7-5, 6-3 triumph to book her place in the quarter-finals.

The Olympic gold medallist displayed superior form throughout the match, breaking down the defences of the six-time Grand Slam champion with consistent pressure and precise shot-making. Zheng's aggressive baseline play proved too much for Swiatek to handle, as the world number 23-ranked player managed to dictate rallies and control the tempo from the opening set.

The first set saw both players trade breaks, with Zheng eventually pulling ahead to clinch it 7-5 after a tightly contested battle. The second set proved more one-sided, as Swiatek struggled to find her rhythm, allowing Zheng to break serve twice and wrap up victory in convincing fashion.

Zheng's quarter-final berth marks another milestone in her breakthrough season, building on her success at the Paris Olympics. The 21-year-old has demonstrated her ability to compete against tennis's elite players on the Grand Slam stage.
