Zverev controlled much of the match against De Minaur, who posed an early challenge with his trademark speed and movement around the court. The world number one hopeful found his rhythm as the contest progressed, breaking through De Minaur's defensive tactics in the fifth game with a series of commanding forehands.
The victory marks another significant step for Zverev, who is in contention to finish 2024 at the top of the ATP rankings. The German has maintained consistent form throughout the Shanghai Masters, extending his winning record at the tournament held at the Qizhong Forest Sports City Arena.
De Minaur's defeat ends his run in Shanghai, though the Australian's determined display underscored his status as a formidable opponent on the professional circuit. His aggressive baseline work kept Zverev engaged throughout the opening stages, preventing the second seed from establishing an early lead.
Zverev will face a tough opponent in the semi-finals as the tournament enters its decisive phase. His progression represents another opportunity to strengthen his credentials for year-end rankings honours.
