Zverev secured his passage with a 6-2, 7-6 (7/2), 6-2 triumph in New York on Wednesday, extending his campaign at the year's final Grand Slam tournament. The world number one demonstrated the consistency expected of his seeding despite facing a competitive challenge from Tabilo in the middle stages of the encounter.
The opening set proved relatively straightforward for the top seed, who broke through the Chilean's defence to establish control early in the match. However, Tabilo mounted a stronger resistance in the second set, forcing a tiebreaker that tested Zverev's composure before the German eventually prevailed 7-2 in the breaker.
With renewed momentum following the second-set victory, Zverev reasserted his dominance in the third set, securing a 6-2 scoreline to seal his passage through to the next round. The dominant display underscores Zverev's credentials as a serious contender for the title as the tournament progresses into the later stages.
