Its chief executive, Thapanee Techajareonvikul, called the deal a platform for "long-term synergy" across the group's retail and wholesale business in Thailand and the wider ASEAN region, the Nation reported. A month later CNBC profiled her as one of the daughters of the TCC Group dynasty now running major parts of the family's business empire. By August she was telling analysts that MM Mega Market's share of BJC's retail revenue could rise from around 15% to roughly 50% over time. The role Thapanee has been president and chief executive of BJC since 2023. CNBC reported that she is the first woman to lead the listed retail and packaging company. BJC reported revenue of 166.6bn baht in 2025 and normalised net profit of 4.47bn baht, Kaohoon International reported. It employs about 61,000 people, CNBC said. Its businesses include Big C, which CNBC described as Thailand's second-largest hypermarket chain, with operations in Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos and Hong Kong. BJC also makes glass bottles and aluminium cans and produces food, tissue and personal-care brands. Big C itself is run by Aswin Techajareonvikul, her husband and predecessor as BJC chief, who is executive vice-chairman of the management board. The Vietnam deal The Vietnam deal is her defining bet. BJC's subsidiary bought TCC Land International (Singapore), which owns the 31-branch wholesale chain, from Golden Land International, another TCC company. It was therefore a transfer within the family group, which CNBC valued at around $720m. BJC said it had used part of more than 10bn baht from sales of unused land to reduce acquisition-related debt. Thapanee said the deal would bring gains in procurement, private-label goods, supply chains and regional sourcing. In the second quarter BJC's sales rose 2.6% to 43.7bn baht and adjusted net profit rose 12.8% to 1.23bn baht. Big C Thailand's same-store sales fell 3.5%, the Nation reported. Packaging carried the quarter: glass and can sales rose 29.7%, and Thapanee said order books were full to the end of 2026. She said Big C's same-store sales had turned positive in August. She is converting stores to a new Big C Mini format, targeting around 120 conversions and new openings this year. BJC is also considering a foreign listing for Big C within three to five years, with Singapore, Hong Kong, mainland China and Vietnam under consideration. Background She is the youngest daughter of TCC founder Charoen Sirivadhanabhakdi. CNBC reported that he transferred shares in the group's holding company to his five children in 2025. Each sibling runs a separate arm: her brother Thapana leads Thai Beverage, her sister Wallapa Traisorat runs Asset World Corp, and her brother Panote heads Frasers Property. Thapanee, a graduate of MIT and Harvard Business School, worked at Merrill Lynch in Singapore before joining the group. "When I became a female leader, I didn't feel any nervousness," she told CNBC. She said women make up about 60% of BJC's staff and roughly half of senior management. What to watch: the first full quarter of MM Mega Market results in the third quarter, and whether Big C Thailand's recovery lasts through the high season.
