She saw the river islands no one served. Twenty-four years later, “Asia’s Nobel” has come to her.

Ms. Runa Khan founded Friendship in 2002 to bring healthcare to Bangladesh’s shifting river islands. At the end of August 2026 the Ramon Magsaysay Award Foundation named her one of three 2026 awardees. She receives the award at the Metropolitan Theater in Manila on 15 November.
